From Sports to eSports, a Business Perspective

ABSTRACT

eSports are gradually generating more and more revenues, COVID-19 pandemic brought a supplementary boost. Major sports clubs started in recent years eying seriously the eSports industry. The article investigates the change paradigms from traditional sports to electronic sports. An analysis of both benefits and disadvantages of shifting to eSports is thus crucial in determining if this choice is viable and profitable. A list of large sports clubs provides an outlook of what is happening in the path from sports to eSports. In addition to creating eSports branches, change management includes in many cases building from scratch eSports arenas or converting traditional sports grounds to eSports structures.
